Sleep

your hand grasps my thumb-
our breathing becomes one as
sleep takes you away

post bottle-
a twitch wakes you
for just a moment

Sleep

the blankets askew-
as you start to fall asleep
we share the same breath

dream talking-
I lie beside you
and listen

Sleep

a thief in the night-
sleep steals into the room and
takes me unawares

cunning-
the sly sofa
steals my will

Sleep

your door left open-
looking back at you as I
close it behind me

moonlight-
your mobile
slowly winds down

Sleep

bone tired and weary
my eyes close and I pray for
the sleep of the dead

falling-
engulfed by darkness
deep and dreamless

Sleep

your head on my chest
the sudden twitch of your leg
as you fall asleep

contemplation-
the sounds
of soft breathing

Sleep

a blanket of clouds
pulled up tight over my head
shutting out the day

morning song-
the reluctance
of wakefulness

Sleep

steering through the shoals
drawn in by the siren’s song
of my flannel sheets

coveting
the cool side
of her pillow

Fade

Sleep is closing in,
Still her eyes strain to capture
The day’s waning light.
