Horses

leaves blow through the barn-
the sweet smell of feed dust hangs
heavy in the air
–
ringing steel-
horseshoes red in
the farrier’s forge

stallions in the sky
rearing out of boiling clouds
thunder through the night
–
late fall snow-
wild horses fade
into the woods
