Campfire

april darkling skies-
picking up dry kindling for
the seasons last fire
–
well worn stories-
glowing embers
float skyward

telling ghost stories-
embers on the rising smoke
mixing with the stars
–
distant howls-
another log
feeds the fire

hot rising embers
intermingle with the stars
as they float away
–
cracking fire-
oak and maple
turning to ash
