Waves, softly lapping

Dappled light wanders.

Across the lush, verdant grass
The night air’s cold hand

reaches down and pulls my breath

in shards from my chest.
I go to freeze on dark tides

I wake before three.

for another’s riches
Crimson clouds hang low.

The day’s embers glow softly,

burning down to dusk.
The past is a guide;
A companion who leads you
Into the future
Drops of falling rain,
Waiting, outstretched tongue.
Desperately seeking my

Decisions

deep under water
looking back at the surface
as I sink farther
–
valentines day-
ice cracks
beneath my feet

Legacy

in my father’s chair
still unprepared to carry
this heavy burden
–
fallen acorns-
my little feet
in your shoes

Insomnia

my bed, no respite
dark lonely hours renege on
the promise of sleep
–
flannel sheets-
the rhythm
of your breath
