Breeze

wind in the rushes-
dawn breaks on a night-heron
stalking the salt marsh

onshore breezes-
deep in the fen
the cattails sing

Apples

the last day of spring-
apple blossoms ride on the
late afternoon breeze

barefoot-
crab apples
in the grass

Rain

sitting on the stoop
waiting on a taxi cab-
a soft rain moves in

heavy clouds-
dogwood petals
in the grass

Wake

with the rising sun
the smell of coffee clears the
cobwebs from my mind

smoldering campfire-
I blow on the
overnight coals

Escape

my eyelids heavy
weighed down by lies from the past
that I can’t escape

dark skies-
mountain rains
flood the valley

Fire

black potbellied stove-
the evening’s load of firewood
stacked up along side

stars in the sand-
our fire stoked
by the ocean breeze

Leaves

autumn afternoon-
driving home in the dark past
drifts of wind blown leaves

light snow-
a swirl of
amber leaves

Fire

whispers of thunder
dry lightning in distant hills
the rain long absent

autumn hills-
ashes rain
on the valley

Grey

an arctic grey wolf
arrives on the cold north wind
and sinks its teeth in

grey clouds-
english ivy
turned to glass

Wind

sudden autumn snow-
wind blown beauty and carnage
behind in its wake

cold winds-
whorls and eddies
of fallen leaves
