Breeze
wind in the rushes-
dawn breaks on a night-heron
stalking the salt marsh
–
onshore breezes-
deep in the fen
the cattails sing
wind in the rushes-
dawn breaks on a night-heron
stalking the salt marsh
–
onshore breezes-
deep in the fen
the cattails sing
the last day of spring-
apple blossoms ride on the
late afternoon breeze
–
barefoot-
crab apples
in the grass
sitting on the stoop
waiting on a taxi cab-
a soft rain moves in
–
heavy clouds-
dogwood petals
in the grass
with the rising sun
the smell of coffee clears the
cobwebs from my mind
–
smoldering campfire-
I blow on the
overnight coals
my eyelids heavy
weighed down by lies from the past
that I can’t escape
–
dark skies-
mountain rains
flood the valley
black potbellied stove-
the evening’s load of firewood
stacked up along side
–
stars in the sand-
our fire stoked
by the ocean breeze
autumn afternoon-
driving home in the dark past
drifts of wind blown leaves
–
light snow-
a swirl of
amber leaves
whispers of thunder
dry lightning in distant hills
the rain long absent
–
autumn hills-
ashes rain
on the valley
an arctic grey wolf
arrives on the cold north wind
and sinks its teeth in
–
grey clouds-
english ivy
turned to glass
sudden autumn snow-
wind blown beauty and carnage
behind in its wake
–
cold winds-
whorls and eddies
of fallen leaves
