Restless
wandering this earth
unseen, tired, yearning to be
finally at peace
–
midnight rain
gnarled branches
scrape my window
wandering this earth
unseen, tired, yearning to be
finally at peace
–
midnight rain
gnarled branches
scrape my window
a pencil thin wind
eases through balding branches
swirling russet leaves
–
mountain pines
an autumn snowfall
ices the boughs
walking through the storm
cold rain running down her back
her umbrella, home
–
hammered tin
the slow drip of rain
through the roof
sandals dangling
water lapping at her thighs
her lover, the sea
–
billowing white clouds
salty ocean mists
kiss her face
clinging to the flames
my mortal sins escape me
carried by the wind
–
absolution
casting bread
upon the water
walking with my thoughts
the sudden flurry of wings
once more I’m alone
–
circling on updrafts
watching the fish
take wing
awash in the tide
a ruined galleon lists
her cannons askew
–
prevailing winds
limping home
on torn sails
as dawn approaches
the breath of autumn whispers
in the swirling leaves
–
barefoot at dawn
walking in the surf
I draw you closer
at the marsh’s edge
flat water just visible
between the rushes
–
cat tails
swaying in
the salt breeze
alone in the woods
dry rustling leaves in the wind
the snap of a twig
–
sear grasses
fueling the
inevitable
