Odyssey

it’s been a long ride-
this road’s often difficult
but worth the journey

apple blossoms-
taken by the
wandering wind

Relentless

endlessly sifting
the detritus of the day
while sleep eludes me

an unkempt sky –
wind driven surf
pounds the shore

Fire

a guttering flame
struggling to hold the wick
before going out

roiling clouds-
searing winds blow
the grasslands ablaze

Dust

a banging screen door
the ghosts of conversations
echo in the wind

merciless sun –
the empty ring
of wind chimes

Echoes

I still feel you here
disturbing the emptiness
well after you’re gone

thunderclouds-
hard rain off
the tin roof

Hunt

a large gray crane stands
fishing the shallow waters
down among the reeds

wingbeats-
spending ripples where
once was a fish

Chill

lazy curls of steam
glowing in the rays of the
slanting winter sun

the north wind-
warming my hands
on a hot cup of tea

Rising

frost on the windows-
heat from the radiator
rustles the curtains

warm boots-
glowing embers
adrift in the smoke

Scorched

before the thunder
a flash of jagged lightning
frozen in the snow

august sagebrush-
ravenous flames
insatiable

Decisions

entwined in the sheets
last night you were in my bed
complicating things

a cold rain-
leaving alone
at closing time
