Perspective

patiently waiting
the river of time seems to
slow to a trickle

mayflies
in the pond
a snapping turtle

Moonlight

light from the full moon
spills through the open window
and pools on the floor

waning
molten silver
moonlight

Perspective

spying Earth from space
a hard reminder of our
insignificance

a sand grain
amidst the
multitude

Iron

toiling at the fire
sweat rolls off the smithy’s face
and turns into steam

wide oak boughs
shadows
cross the forge

Morning

concentric ripples
spreading across the surface
of a misty lake

lakeshore
a striped bass
breaks the surface

Muffled

shouting at the void
trying to keep the silence
from smothering me

rain falls
on a carpet
of autumn leaves

Shadows

falling amber rain
collecting in brackish pools
under a street light

a moment
flash lit raindrops
suspended in time

Longhand

caressed by the pen
ink and paper combine with
the lightness of verse

liquid words
meandering
into prose

Summer

faded cutoff shorts
bare feet out the car window
hair teased by the wind

hot skin
cool sheets
and promises

Patience

adrift in the tide
seagulls carving lazy arcs
through the azure sky

becalmed,
awaiting the moon
and the fish
