Homeless

asleep on a bench
the hard rap of a nightstick
startles him awake

dark rain-
wet newspaper
her only refuge

River

the river of time
flows past this open window
and into my past

distant clouds-
a riverbed
of broken earth

Ice

silver cormorants
standing by the melting edge
of a frozen lake

snowfall-
koi slowly swim
beneath a skin of ice

Rain

the new morning sun
shining through the mist after
a hesitant rain

sunset-
a sudden tattoo
on her tin roof

Shower

caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head

evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath

Fishing

boots in the water
my line slack on the surface
suddenly pulled taut

low morning light-
steam rises
off the lake

Slide

icy drops of rain
slide past my ear and linger
down along my chin

parking-
raInbows slide
towards the drain

Rain

breathless in the rain-
the greyhound bus pulls away
but you’re not on it

a cold rain-
my forehead
on the window

Frustrations

feeling impotent
my head full of words but I’m
unable to speak

snow fall-
staring out my
hospital window

Ice

quietly cracking-
gentle waves frozen within
the river’s surface

irrigation pond-
young skaters
scarves and gloves
