Homeless
asleep on a bench
the hard rap of a nightstick
startles him awake
–
dark rain-
wet newspaper
her only refuge
asleep on a bench
the hard rap of a nightstick
startles him awake
–
dark rain-
wet newspaper
her only refuge
the river of time
flows past this open window
and into my past
–
distant clouds-
a riverbed
of broken earth
silver cormorants
standing by the melting edge
of a frozen lake
–
snowfall-
koi slowly swim
beneath a skin of ice
the new morning sun
shining through the mist after
a hesitant rain
–
sunset-
a sudden tattoo
on her tin roof
caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head
–
evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath
boots in the water
my line slack on the surface
suddenly pulled taut
–
low morning light-
steam rises
off the lake
icy drops of rain
slide past my ear and linger
down along my chin
–
parking-
raInbows slide
towards the drain
breathless in the rain-
the greyhound bus pulls away
but you’re not on it
–
a cold rain-
my forehead
on the window
feeling impotent
my head full of words but I’m
unable to speak
–
snow fall-
staring out my
hospital window
quietly cracking-
gentle waves frozen within
the river’s surface
–
irrigation pond-
young skaters
scarves and gloves
