Impermanence

on this lonesome road
my only legacy the
footprints in the dust

empty shells-
ocean waves
wash the shore

Decline

in the overgrowth
well worn by the hands of time
forgotten tombstones

by the window
waiting, staring
at the falling snow

Light

shadows of flowers
paint the skin across the vale
of your naked back

clouds float by-
shadows spill
into the valley

Torment

anticipation-
enduring the pain, thankful
for feeling at all

deadheading-
rose thorns
pierce my skin

Daydream

lighted by the sun
her spectral visage hanging
in the morning sky

slanted light-
the virgin sun
greets the moon

Lines

night in the forest
an passing train rumbling
off in the distance

distant music-
blackbirds perched
on power lines

Rhythm

shortening my stride
slowing behind old lovers
walking hand in hand

icy harbor-
the crush of a
rising and falling tide

Death

dark shadows riding
the fine line between the here
and the hereafter

cold and silent-
along his path
withered grass

Conflict

averting my eyes
pretending not to notice
your scars and bruises

cherry copper leaves-
the distant crash
of rutting stags
