Hiking

afternoon sunlight
casting long winter shadows
through the evergreens

woodland trails-
a scrim of ice
underfoot

Southwest

terra cotta bricks-
the desert sunset lights up
an old bell tower

adobe twilight-
the slowly cooling
desert sand

Dusting

the promise of spring
pushing through the morning snow-
unopened blossoms

morning coffee-
powdered sugar
on my crossword

Transience

stoic in the sun-
sand awaiting ruin from
the approaching tide

tenuous footprints-
a shimmering surf
over amber sands

Lost

a dark bus depot-
waiting by the only light
for hope to arrive

dark wanderings-
only the moon
lights my path

Awake

bleary eyed and tired-
the tile floor in the bathroom
cold beneath my feet

before sunrise-
my pillow whispers
sweet nothings

Coffee

invading my dreams-
the warm aroma drifts in
through my bedroom door

warm pajamas-
a steaming mug
on my nightstand

Morn

sunday morning snow-
the coals put to bed last night
gently coaxed to light

aimless snowflakes-
sunlight flashes
and disappears

Weekend

saturday morning-
I fall back to sleep, your kiss
drying on my lips

the bedroom door-
your pillow
still warm

Injustice

bitter winter winds-
corruption festers and thrives
in the light of day

new moon-
awaiting the sun
to seek out shadows
