Steam

driving past the farm
hummocks of mulch lie steaming
in the morning sun

leafless trees-
mist rises above
the duck pond

Wake

with the rising sun
the smell of coffee clears the
cobwebs from my mind

smoldering campfire-
I blow on the
overnight coals

Harvest

freshly cropped farmland
the western sky glows amber
over the harvest

the setting sun-
threshed chaff
in the wind

Safe

lonely red roses
walked off from the outside by
a thicket of thorns

the sun
our children at play
in the back yard

Run

running through the woods
peep frogs fall silent as I
pass by unannounced

frozen breath-
the sun rises
to greet me

Morning

goose down sleeping bags
the morning mist rises as
we share the sunrise

breaking sunlight-
our bedroom window
kissed by frost

Safety

alone in my room-
I can only feel safe when
no one’s allowed in

dying light-
the forest
changes

Warmth

warm morning sunlight-
a vague shadow on the wall
in the shape of you

a glass of wine-
the warm glow
on your face

Thirst

palm leaves shade the sand-
reclining in a chaise lounge
drinking in the sun

salt air-
margaritas
whet my dreams

Shelter

hard rain pelts the trees-
a hummingbird takes shelter
on my windowsill

desert noon-
seeking shelter
beneath the sand
