Whispers

echoes in the walls-
this unfurnished apartment
hiding its secrets

harvest moon-
cool wind
in the corn field

Ruin

the front door ajar-
shards of glass litter the hall
of my ruined home

crows take wing –
a fir crashes
to the forest floor

Rain

in the driving rain-
train doors close as a blue suit
runs past my window

dripping leaves-
rippled shadows
in clear water

Flood

a raging torrent-
black water choked with debris
and bad memories

murky waters-
stirring up
the past

Atonement

alone with my sins-
I pray for atonement and
for the strength to change

overcast-
rain runs down
stained glass

Island

at work dreaming of
a caribbean romance
before summer ends

a dockside bar
rum runners and
buffet tunes

Shore

a horseshoe crab shell
empty in the shadow of
an upturned rowboat

moonlit surf-
the lifeguard tower
stands empty

Mermaid

the sea in the wind
salt, sand, and tropical sun
tangled in her hair

amid the waves-
she watches ships
ply her waters

Summer

clumps of garden weeds-
the summer sun warms my back
and eases my mind

a golden breeze-
the wind caught
in her hair

Late

the party over-
blackened wicks smolder in the
citronella pots

constellations-
old friends and
old stories
