Ice
a walk in the woods-
the ice covered snow crunching
underneath my boots
–
freezing rain-
my nerves
tested
a walk in the woods-
the ice covered snow crunching
underneath my boots
–
freezing rain-
my nerves
tested
well before sunrise
the clamor of rubbish bins
echoes in my sleep
–
venus rising-
masked bandits
steal my trash
the scent of rabbit
coaxes the fox from her den
and into the snow
–
late winter-
fresh snow
on the deadfall
lying here in bed
unnbeknownst to you your trust
already betrayed
–
heavy fog-
your train leaves
without me
a cold rain falling-
trying to stay warm with tales
of wine and whiskey
–
white mountains-
caribou freeze
at a cracking branch
the fire laid on while
winter in all its fury
rages at my door
–
grey skies-
cruel winter winds
howl at the moon
wind in the rushes-
dawn breaks on a night-heron
stalking the salt marsh
–
onshore breezes-
deep in the fen
the cattails sing
I catch your eye as
we pass each other by but
you’re out of my league
–
noonday sun-
lions stalking
in the tall grass
at the old stone well
I peer into the darkness
looking back at me
–
moss covered stone-
I dip my bowl into
the well of souls
reaching for your hand
I would touch you if only
I could turn back time
–
under the oak tree-
lost in our
history
