Christmas
winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche
–
christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed
winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche
–
christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night
–
an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves
another el train
rumbles by as I sit in
my open window
–
an ailing fan-
ninety degrees
at two am
a coyote’s howl-
I walk out of my own skin
and right into yours
–
afloat-
my body below
an anchor
blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness
–
crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves
slow curls of wood smoke-
snow covers the cabin roofs
nestled in the trees
–
pine boughs-
bent and white
with autumn snow
#snowing
a cruel summer sun
the earth blistering beneath
her withering gaze
–
abandoned-
once fertile soil
becomes as dust
cold wind in my face-
through watering eyes I watch
hawks soar overhead
–
pure joy-
jowls flapping
in the slipstream
leafless and barren
bowed trees pledge their fealty
to the harsh north wind
–
november eve-
silver wind in
empty trees
