Summer

a laboring fan-
august heat makes fonder my
memories of snow

summer sun-
my verdant lawn
sere and brown

Age

as day turns to night
the sun gives her dying light
to the mountain tops

mountain peaks-
aging temples
streaked with snow

Wolf

wolves of stone and snow
insubstantial in the light
of the forest moon

rising embers-
mournful howling
in the distance

Green

verdant sunlight-
hillsides dappled by the shade
from the passing clouds

sea foam-
emerald hills
flecked with sheep

Desert

overnight snowfall
blankets the desert landscape
of sand and sagebrush

condors overhead-
remnants of snow
in cactus shadows

Silver

the first spring sunrise-
a thin mist of winter clings
to the melting snow

daybreak-
a silver moon
over hoarfrost grass

Transition

late afternoon sun-
snow fades to grass as winter
draws to a close

red feathers-
in the snow
a purple crocus

Birds

softly melting snow-
the trumpets of returning
canadian geese

the ides of march-
a robin graces
my dogwood tree

Moonlight

dark forest shadows
stand in stark relief against
the cold moonlit snow

silver moonlight-
mercury in
retrograde

Fog

snow on the gravestones-
the caretaker’s lantern swings
haloed in the fog

moonlit snow-
fog sprawls
across the road
