Rebirth

my respite over
the calling of this new life-
irresistible

moonglow-
another turn
at the wheel

Venus

rising from the sea-
her newly formed shores made from
black and steaming glass

predawn chill-
venus and jupiter dance
in the twilight

Separation

ashes and embers-
my gentle caress lingers
barely on your lips

cold glass-
the distance
of your touch

Candle

stone walls and dirt floors-
candle flames cling to their wicks
throwing dark shadows

straw bedding-
a tallow candle’s
uneasy light

Hung

staring unfocused-
bloodshot sky barely noticed
through these bleary eyes

cottonmouth-
a morning dove
splits my skull

Dawn

waiting for the sun
thready morning clouds make way
for her arrival

open windows-
awake before
the alarm

Transformation

staring at myself
I see that I have become
what I feared the most

predawn-
coming awake
in a stranger’s mind

Rhythm

flags snap in the wind-
lines of waves begin to break
over silver sands

snoring-
warm breath
on my neck

Trust

full of suspicions-
in our bed looking at you
lying beside me

crevasse-
a broken trust
far from healing

Homeless

in the stinging rain
waiting by the library
for the doors to open

sleeping rough-
water from the downspout
soaking his coat
