Cats
two dark silhouettes
framed in the open window
sitting side by side
–
tails twitching-
warm dreams
in the sunlight
two dark silhouettes
framed in the open window
sitting side by side
–
tails twitching-
warm dreams
in the sunlight
pinpoints of starlight
fall from the firmament and
streak across the sky
–
midnight-
lines of fire
split the sky
I crawl into bed
too tired to fall asleep
reliving the day
–
a warm breeze-
awake in my bed
paralyzed
waking every day
under a threadbare blanket
to an empty bed
–
bleary eyed-
the crows outside
contemplate murder
as the fog rolls in
skeletons of spectral trees
fade into the night
–
foggy evening-
gnarled branches
scratch at my window
slices of the moon
slivered through the window blinds
drape across your back
–
snowy owl-
cold branches
in the dead of night
your door left open-
looking back at you as I
close it behind me
–
moonlight-
your mobile
slowly winds down
leaning back eyes closed
listening to the whitecaps
as they roll on shore
–
salt spray-
roaring wind
in my ears
in the dead of night
the monster under my bed
turns out to be me
–
skeletal branches-
the window framing
unfounded fears
I wake to nothing
but the impression of you
left in my mattress
–
cold sweat-
twisted in
my bedsheets
