the hand of darkness
dragging down the daylight as
the sun lies dying

ruthless sun-
vultures wait
in the thermals

the hawaiian sun-
a straw hat and gunnysack
in pineapple fields
–
pacific clouds-
the obscured rim
of Kilauea

a gotham snowstorm-
woolen pea coat collar up
leaning into the wind
–
fieldstone walkway-
a dusting of snow
lightly coats the moss

a grove of white oaks
standing in a flooded field-
leafless in summer
–
silver on black-
the koi swim
in the moon

deep in the night sky
beyond the reach of the sun
lost among the stars
–
desert sky-
asleep under
the constellations

as the grey moon sets
the young sun rises above
a new horizon
–
the church yard-
low night bells
toll the new year

in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night
–
an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves

the sun bows her head-
day gives way to nightfall by
the ascendant moon
–
twilight-
fireflies call out
to emerging stars

blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness
–
crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves

the late autumn moon-
rising from gold to silver.
