Motherhood

always by my side
the mother of my children
the love of my life

woven grass-
the sparrow
steadfast

Rising

staying up all night
just to fall asleep with you
and the breaking dawn

frogs in the trees-
rising woodsmoke
staining the sunset

Revival

take my outstretched hand
and let us walk together
across this threshold

distant mountain peaks-
over the dewey grass
the rising sun

Reflection

it’s not who I am
this someone in the mirror
but who I became

a placid lake-
the moon’s watery
countenance

Wind

on a sea of glass-
the wind, a fickle mistress
abandoning me

moonless sky-
wolves howling
into the wind

Changes

cloudy desert skies
bringing the promise of rain
and with it new life

parted clouds-
fresh cut tulips
on the table

Blood

weary of this need
yearning to see the sun but
your throat, so tempting

orion’s belt-
clouds of bats
obscure the moon

Seizure

holding you tightly
wondering just where you go
when the darkness comes

stifling heat-
electric blue veins
dance across the storm

Delusions

the girl of my dreams
or maybe just one of my
hallucinations

freshly cut grass-
watching the clouds
transform

Petrichor

angry thunderclouds
lurking on the horizon
heavy with cold rain

summer afternoon-
the scent of rain
fills the air
