Decline
encroaching shadows
race to fill the void left by
the crumbling day
–
sleeping dogs-
the shade of
a dying elm
encroaching shadows
race to fill the void left by
the crumbling day
–
sleeping dogs-
the shade of
a dying elm
starless winter skies-
ebon velvet overhead
diamond dust below
–
curls of silver-
the night sky pierced
by the moon
the new morning sun
shining through the mist after
a hesitant rain
–
sunset-
a sudden tattoo
on her tin roof
your head on my chest-
falling asleep together
in the afterglow
–
a warm breeze-
tangled together
in the tall grass
waiting on my turn-
step by step moving forward
ever so slowly
–
traffic-
another day
turns to night
caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head
–
evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath
icy drops of rain
slide past my ear and linger
down along my chin
–
parking-
raInbows slide
towards the drain
hushed and reverent
watching the moonrise and the
rebirth of the year
–
midnight-
snow falls over
the farmer’s field
shrinking from the light
blended into the shadows
I’m invisible
–
dusk-
black clouds
rise from the earth
the solar transit
far to brief indeed on this
winter solstice day
–
winter reborn-
I depart and return
in darkness
