Driving

the ragtop put down
bare feet up on the dashboard
red hair in the wind

pacific coast highway-
california dreamin’
on the radio

Puddles

a rippling sky
cast in all directions by
a child’s rubber boots

parting clouds-
blue jays bathe
in tiny ponds

Ocean

white flecks of sea foam
spraying off the ocean waves
and the rising tide

onshore winds-
smell of salt
and the sea

Sails

white on shades of blue-
the day ends as sailors tire
of chasing the wind

moonlight-
sailboats crease
the black water

Crimson

a kiss of sunlight
caught in the underside of
a cardinal’s wing

young rabbits-
wild strawberries
hidden in the grass

Bed

the small of your back
illuminated softly
by a slice of moon

waterfall-
hair cascading
across my pillow

Heat

such oppressive heat-
my sleeping cat slowly drips
from his windowsill

shimmering sand-
false promises
in the distance

Laundry

afternoon hours spent
talking laundry off the line
ahead of the rain

the laundromat-
hard plastic chairs
and ennui

Grounding

the stones in my path
used to build a foundation
keeping me grounded

peace-
rain runs off
the temple roof

Light

meager candle light
cast upon these cottage walls
mingles with shadows

gold leaf-
dappled through
the tree tops
