Fire
whispers of thunder
dry lightning in distant hills
the rain long absent
–
autumn hills-
ashes rain
on the valley
whispers of thunder
dry lightning in distant hills
the rain long absent
–
autumn hills-
ashes rain
on the valley
snow covered pines-
evergreen branches droop low
just before they break
–
falling snow-
a large crow
in the holly bush
sudden autumn snow-
wind blown beauty and carnage
behind in its wake
–
cold winds-
whorls and eddies
of fallen leaves
downcast hazel eyes-
blistered feet dangle from the
hospital gurney
–
bitter winds-
the horizon
set aglow
threatening storm clouds-
filling sandbags to ward off
the impending flood
–
a neglected barn-
keeping vigil over
rising waters
warm evening colors-
wet oil paint dry bushed across
this canvas of sky
–
evening skies-
clouds blend into
the autumn canopy
open before me
the pages of my journal
blank and foreboding
–
onshore winds-
sand and shells
in the roiling surf
the full predawn moon
resting above the changing
autumn canopy
–
evening chill-
the moon dressed
in alabaster
an autumn sunset-
the shadow of a goshawk
long on the meadow
–
oak leaves-
slipping below
a covered bridge
a cool autumn eve
the reclining crescent moon
asleep in the sky
–
a blue heron-
flying under
the misty moon
