Sunset

a sienna sun
set low in the eastern sky-
the treetops alight

red stratus clouds-
remnants of the
evening sun

Rainfall

heavy pounding rain
outside my window the world-
a monet painting

early morning rain-
snare drumming
on the skylights

Rain

sitting on the stoop
waiting on a taxi cab-
a soft rain moves in

heavy clouds-
dogwood petals
in the grass

Cold

winter in the air-
unmown fields of autumn grass
yellowed by the sun

looking up-
snowflakes on
your lashes

Burden

leaving my baggage
there’s far too much to carry
along this journey

the river left behind-
ewer water
darkens the road

Escape

my eyelids heavy
weighed down by lies from the past
that I can’t escape

dark skies-
mountain rains
flood the valley

Run

running through the woods
peep frogs fall silent as I
pass by unannounced

frozen breath-
the sun rises
to greet me

Morning

goose down sleeping bags
the morning mist rises as
we share the sunrise

breaking sunlight-
our bedroom window
kissed by frost

Haze

far down on the street
I look up towards the top floors
enveloped by clouds

incoming tide-
the golden gate bridge
draped in fog

Thirst

palm leaves shade the sand-
reclining in a chaise lounge
drinking in the sun

salt air-
margaritas
whet my dreams
