Danger
a clandestine tryst
made all the more exciting
by the recklessness
–
high desert sun
entwined eagles
fall to the earth
a clandestine tryst
made all the more exciting
by the recklessness
–
high desert sun
entwined eagles
fall to the earth
physically drained
emotionally wiped out
I have no spoons left
–
driftwood
beaten by
the surf
shades from dark to pale
each made up of the other
standing arm in arm
–
frigid night
streaks of fire
light the sky
black and blue and bruised
pinned to the ropes but fighting
for our very souls
–
a hard rain
drenches all
with no regard
when I’m in shadow
you pull me into the light
and show me the sun
–
old driftwood
a salamander
basking
tiny little lies
the mortar between the stones
of my foundation
–
morning
glistening on
silken threads
the sun’s departure
as the day draws to a close
burns the ombré sky
–
fireflies
against the
dawn of night
the thinnest veneer
of our civilization
so easily torn
–
scissors-
crisp, fresh
white sheets
patiently waiting
the river of time seems to
slow to a trickle
–
mayflies
in the pond
a snapping turtle
a kestrel soaring
circling on warm updrafts
focused on its prey
–
wings swept
plummeting
earthward
