Light

the long autumn sun
shining through the turning leaves
of October trees

frosted windows-
winter morning light
spreads across my floor

Storm

a lone egret stands
beneath a spreading chestnut
sheltered from the rain

thunder snow-
after images of
white lighting

Relentless

endlessly sifting
the detritus of the day
while sleep eludes me

an unkempt sky –
wind driven surf
pounds the shore

Conflict

the scars on your soul-
mementos of battles fought
but never quite won

broken silence-
the distant crash
of rutting bucks

Daydream

lighted by the sun
her spectral visage hanging
in the morning sky

slanted light-
the virgin sun
greets the moon

Lost

every nerve exposed-
in the comfort of her mind
she shuts out the world

long afternoon shadows-
an old rocking horse
threadbare and faded

Tracks

walking in the tide
my temporary footprints
too soon forgotten

gentle flurries-
fresh tracks lead
to the birdbath

Singular

a single starling
adrift in the sea of sky
searching for it’s flock

rolling sea foam-
venus takes her place
in the darkening sky

Rhythm

shortening my stride
slowing behind old lovers
walking hand in hand

icy harbor-
the crush of a
rising and falling tide

Evening

sunset through the trees
one final glory beneath
the coming of night

rising shadows-
silhouettes against
the dusky sky
