Bows

cloudless starlit skies-
a pale white moonbow appears
above the aspen

double rainbow-
a gracious gift
after the storm

Fire

warm embers of clouds
gilded rose and violet
from the rising sun

dawn moon-
a crow alights
on an ashen branch

Death

with a poisoned pen
I write stories in the blood
of the innocent

desert sagebrush-
rattlesnakes hidden
in plain sight

Shadows

golden morning light
drapes across the pristine snow-
dark bamboo shadows

late afternoon-
shadows cast by
window blind

#shadows

Chance

I catch your eye as
we pass each other by but
you’re out of my league

noonday sun-
lions stalking
in the tall grass

Lantern

at the forest’s edge
a guttering lantern hangs
from a shepherd’s crook

winter stars-
the warm glow
of a coach lamp

Ice

an overnight storm
invades my dreams and I wake
to trees turned to glass

frozen rain-
crystal branches
brush the ground

Bloodmoon

a nested raven-
spreads his ebon wings beneath
the lunar eclipse

winter sky-
the moon
as blood

Under

the hours before dawn
I wake to your skin on mine
under the duvet

winter’s breath-
maple leaves
under fresh snow

Drunk

pour me another
for I’m not yet numb enough
to make new mistakes

darkling beetles-
drunk on the
morning dew
