Warmth
eggnog on the stove-
mace and cinnamon dress the
bottom of my glass
–
a glowing hearth-
outside the sun sets
on new year’s day
eggnog on the stove-
mace and cinnamon dress the
bottom of my glass
–
a glowing hearth-
outside the sun sets
on new year’s day
winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche
–
christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
the new dawn arrives
on the first day of winter
revealing the truth
–
winter dawn-
a landscape of ice
greets the sun
in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night
–
an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves
slow curls of wood smoke-
snow covers the cabin roofs
nestled in the trees
–
pine boughs-
bent and white
with autumn snow
#snowing
a laboring fan-
august heat makes fonder my
memories of snow
–
summer sun-
my verdant lawn
sere and brown
moving through aspic
living just outside of time
tired and alone
–
persistent rain-
a raven just
beyond the glass
a wine glass empty
save for the mark your lips made
when kissing the rim
–
thick woolen socks-
a spark jumps
between our lips
wind rustles the leaves
and coaxes a dryad’s song
of spring from the trees
–
whispers-
forest giants
shake off the cold
