Warmth

eggnog on the stove-
mace and cinnamon dress the
bottom of my glass

a glowing hearth-
outside the sun sets
on new year’s day

Christmas

winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche

christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed

Cacophony

past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans

over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens

Winter

the new dawn arrives
on the first day of winter
revealing the truth

winter dawn-
a landscape of ice
greets the sun

Solstice

in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night

an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves

Snowing

slow curls of wood smoke-
snow covers the cabin roofs
nestled in the trees

pine boughs-
bent and white
with autumn snow
#snowing

Summer

a laboring fan-
august heat makes fonder my
memories of snow

summer sun-
my verdant lawn
sere and brown

Depression

moving through aspic
living just outside of time
tired and alone

persistent rain-
a raven just
beyond the glass

Lips

a wine glass empty
save for the mark your lips made
when kissing the rim

thick woolen socks-
a spark jumps
between our lips

Wind

wind rustles the leaves
and coaxes a dryad’s song
of spring from the trees

whispers-
forest giants
shake off the cold
