Endurance
eroding mountains
pushing back against the wind
resistant to change
–
warm breezes-
paisley dancing
in the wheat fields
eroding mountains
pushing back against the wind
resistant to change
–
warm breezes-
paisley dancing
in the wheat fields
bobcats and black bear
mark their territory in
the suburban wild
–
predawn-
awakened again
by coyotes
a warm summer night
the plaintive cries of a fox
echo from the woods
–
a burrow
tail wrapped
around her kits
faded cutoff shorts
bare feet out the car window
hair teased by the wind
–
hot skin
cool sheets
and promises
Draped on an elm bough
Branches dapple the sunlight
That warms up my cat
A desert reborn
As rain coalesces and
Falls to the parched earth
Salt spray in my face
The surf pounding the sand as
I comb for sea glass.
On the horizon,
the evening sun stretches low
beckoning the night.
I wish it was when
cold winter days were naught
but a memory.
