Shadows

a quick glimpse into
the recesses of my soul
is all I can bear

sinister clouds-
reflections of
black water

Whisper

elusive silence-
a old game of whispers played
within my own head

before dawn-
the wind talking
with the leaves

Courtship

now all that remains-
the sweet taste of success and
your cherry lip gloss

fresh cut grass-
an old blanket and
poetry

Swells

waves rise up and fall
the rhythm of the ocean
moves us together

surfing-
the swell
of your hips

Haze

families asunder-
buzzards circling high above
the southwest desert

riding the smoke-
wild horses
in the distance

Danger

lying in my bed
beautiful and poisonous
twisted in the sheets

african sun-
death lurks
in the tall grass

Heat

an empty porch swing-
lazy paddle fans disturb
the hot southern air

the forest floor-
dragonflies still
in the thick air

Morning

awake in my bed-
dawn eases through my window
gilding all I see

a web of stars-
blackbird songs
invades my dreams

Shoreline

the wind on the dunes-
playful fingers turning the
pages of my book

wet towels-
bare feet
on my dash

Burn

locked in my safe room
the world burning down outside-
is it hot in here?

crimson sky-
ashes drifting
on hot winds
