Morning
awake too early-
the shock of icy water
splashing on my face
–
dawning sun-
the soft glow of
bedroom curtains
awake too early-
the shock of icy water
splashing on my face
–
dawning sun-
the soft glow of
bedroom curtains
well gone past midnight
swimming in the rain, lightning
off in the distance
–
scattered clothes-
midnight at the
swimming hole
seeing you again-
I add a touch of salt to
a long glass of rain
–
ocean spray-
saltwater
stings my lips
a copse of willows-
long verdant tresses brunette
in the evening light
–
prolonged drought-
green pastures
turn to dust
a great streak of fire
across the afternoon sky-
shattered panes of glass
–
the small hours-
lawn chairs and
shooting stars
oars carve the water-
echoes of my lover’s voice
from the other shore
–
pale skin freckled-
fingers threading
through the water
cold tears of mourning
mix with the rain as I turn
my face to the sky
–
false dawn-
I’m sill here
without you
a dandelion seed
lazily drifts through the sky
as I watch the clouds
–
freshly cut grass-
making sculptures
from the clouds
reliving the past
what lengths I wouldn’t go to
for absolution
–
dogwood blossoms-
blue jays raid
a sparrow nest
nothing left at home
save the old chair and sofa
that I brought with me
–
vacant memories-
cobwebs cling
to empty shelves
