Vixen

a warm summer night
the plaintive cries of a fox
echo from the woods

a burrow
tail wrapped
around her kits

Apprehension

since you got sent home
I’ve been sitting by your side
praying you’ll return

waiting-
trying not
to lose hope

Summer

faded cutoff shorts
bare feet out the car window
hair teased by the wind

hot skin
cool sheets
and promises

Comfort

a cold winter night
staccato rain on the roof
you, keeping me warm

winter’s eve
with you, I’m
warm inside

Shelter

freshly mown spring grass
a frog hops to the safety
of an old stone wall

the bull frog
peeks out from
behind a stone

Downstream

strong flowing rivers
carry meadows and mountains
away to the sea

april rains…
roaring brooks
become brethren

Fantasy

lilacs in her hair
as she lays in the grass with
clouds floating whimsy

escapees from
my minds eye
in the clouds

Drenched

after the rain storm
mossy scent of wet pavement
steaming in the heat

suddenly
heavy raindrops
bursting

Yardwork

amid the spring blooms
autumn’s final vestiges
at last put to rest

fallen leaves-
in time become
new soil

Nectar

honeysuckle vines
distilling morning sunlight
into liquid gold

honeysuckles-
concentrating
liquid sunlightc
