Café

a sidewalk cafe-
lunch forgotten as a crow
lands on my table

al fresco-
a rain drop
in my coffee

Betrayal

in a shadow box
fragments of my broken heart
preserved and on display

shimmering heat-
pools of water
just out of reach

Sea

offshore thunderstorms-
an old salt returns to the
bosom of the sea

crimson skies
a funeral boat
adrift and alight

Commitment

softly he sings-
the workday forgotten as
he tends his bonsai

an empty bench-
pigeons await
her arrival

Pastels

unexpected rain-
flowing into the gutter
a child’s masterpiece

mountain and sky-
colors blended
on my canvas

Nesting

falling dogwood blooms-
little bird tell me why you’ve
abandoned your nest

morning drizzle-
a robin guards
her empty nest

Chimes

a hot acrid wind
rattles the sand blasted bones
hanging from the trees

cool lemonade-
wind chimes ring
on the front porch

Depression

moving through aspic
living just outside of time
tired and alone

persistent rain-
a raven just
beyond the glass

Memorial

it’s far too simple-
these old men send the sons of
others to their deaths

a spring breeze-
the fog of war
swept out to sea

Wind

wind rustles the leaves
and coaxes a dryad’s song
of spring from the trees

whispers-
forest giants
shake off the cold
