a sidewalk cafe-
lunch forgotten as a crow
lands on my table
–
al fresco-
a rain drop
in my coffee

low rolling thunder-
lightning crawls across the sky
rattling windows
–
summer night-
the sky lit by
heat lightning

slow afternoon rain-
long twisted rivulets run
across my windshield
–
mile twelve-
drops of sweat
mark my run

unexpected rain-
flowing into the gutter
a child’s masterpiece
–
mountain and sky-
colors blended
on my canvas

moving through aspic
living just outside of time
tired and alone
–
persistent rain-
a raven just
beyond the glass

a sudden cloudburst-
the rain soaking my shoes as
I run for cover
–
hazy sunshine-
sidewalks steaming
from the passing rain

an old church graveyard
dogwood petals salt the ground
o’er the waiting dead
–
grey rain-
tumbled stones
on hallowed ground

butterflies flutter-
goldenrod grows along side
lines of split rail fence
–
the feed wagon-
cattle gather
along the fences

rain thunders outside-
oil painted landscapes smearing
against my window
–
old masters-
failing vision
frozen in time

weeping cherry trees
pink and white blossoms sodden
with the sudden rain
–
spring rains-
dogwood blooms
floating by
