Desert

sedona night skies-
a desert scorpion crawls
across my bedroll

campfire-
embers rise to greet
the desert stars

Desert

a whole life reduced
to two dust covered and scuffed
satchels by her feet

cold desert night-
the tent offers
poor respite

Missing

the bathroom door locked –
water covers the threshold
soaking the carpet

echos in the hallway-
your phone goes
straight to voice mail

Sunlight

a warm rain ended-
softened sunlight drizzles down
to the forest floor

dawn breaks-
sunlight arrives
unannounced

Eclipse

encroaching darkness-
a blue moon wanders across
the path of the sun

approaching night-
a bat flies across
the moon

Spirit

passing the graveyard-
a pale white lady rises
from tendrils of fog

solemn silence-
hands clasped
in a circle

Silence

a deer in the woods-
the chorus of spring peepers
suddenly silent

midnight-
startled awake by
preternatural stillness

Macabre

writing in the dark-
I dip my pen into the
inkwell of the night

a forest path-
fallen trees
turn to dust

Cats

wind at the windows-
as I move to tend the fire
the cat takes my seat

late winter morn-
my calico sleeps
in a patch of sun

Tide

the slow push of surf-
a lighthouse in the distance
obscured by the fog

distant foghorns
cairns lost
to the tide
