Serenade

the wetland chorus
a glorious counterpoint
to my daily grind

a Hooded Warbler
wakes me with
flights of fancy

Alarm

this morning’s bugle
reveille played by finches
outside my window

birdsong
pulling me
from slumber

Surf

waves topped by whitecaps
crash onto the jetty far
below my window

breaking waves-
ocean and shore
sotto voce

Tides

slow ocean waves
push the gathering sea foam
gently into shore

murmuring-
the ocean whispers
to the shore

Waves

Tall meadow grasses
Tousled by a humble breeze
Whisper in concert

Peep

The springtime wetland
Chorus comes alive at dusk
As the peep frogs sing

Blues

Smoky music seeps
Through these thin apartment walls
And pools in my ears
