Serenade
the wetland chorus
a glorious counterpoint
to my daily grind
–
a Hooded Warbler
wakes me with
flights of fancy
the wetland chorus
a glorious counterpoint
to my daily grind
–
a Hooded Warbler
wakes me with
flights of fancy
this morning’s bugle
reveille played by finches
outside my window
–
birdsong
pulling me
from slumber
waves topped by whitecaps
crash onto the jetty far
below my window
–
breaking waves-
ocean and shore
sotto voce
slow ocean waves
push the gathering sea foam
gently into shore
–
murmuring-
the ocean whispers
to the shore
Tall meadow grasses
Tousled by a humble breeze
Whisper in concert
The springtime wetland
Chorus comes alive at dusk
As the peep frogs sing
Smoky music seeps
Through these thin apartment walls
And pools in my ears
