Leaves

tattered autumn lace
drifting in the morning air
lofted by the breeze

leaf litter-
tulip poplars
shed their skin

Rise

autumn morning light
wanders in through the curtains-
your slow even breath

darkness-
waking to
a sudden rain

Frost

icy autumn breath
a sliver of the full moon
gazes down on me

morning run-
frozen leaves
crunch underfoot

Fish

waiting for the sun-
sitting on a weathered dock
fishing rod in hand

fly fishing-
casting shadows
on the water

Sound

in silent anguish
the mute reach out for justice
their voices stolen

discordant music-
in the apple tree
a starling

Hung

staring unfocused-
bloodshot sky barely noticed
through these bleary eyes

cottonmouth-
a morning dove
splits my skull

Dawn

waiting for the sun
thready morning clouds make way
for her arrival

open windows-
awake before
the alarm

Sun

the fall of the year-
bare limbs of towering trees
reaching for the sun

sunrise-
amber leaves
on the water

Colors

sunset on the lake
threading my wet fingers through
tangerine waters

salmon skies-
october morning
the hills ablaze

Farm

stalks of winter wheat
growing through the rusty frame
of an old tractor

rising light-
a tattered scarecrow
greets the sun
