Winter

early spring flurries-
a young robin perches in
snow covered holly

peach sunrise-
frost glazes the
juniper berries

Ice

icy morning air-
tender fingers deftly tease
the breath from my chest

a silent stream-
ice flows from
the jagged rock

Morning

the coals put to bed-
a sugar coated landscape
greets me at sunrise

saturday morning-
full of promise
beyond my bed

Mist

in the morning sun
slight pockets of fog linger
on winter hillsides

morning mist-
migrating geese
hug the shore

Kiss

the warm light of dawn
eases in through the curtains
and kisses your cheek

early light-
a gentle kiss on
your sleeping head

Breeze

wind in the rushes-
dawn breaks on a night-heron
stalking the salt marsh

onshore breezes-
deep in the fen
the cattails sing

Fire

warm embers of clouds
gilded rose and violet
from the rising sun

dawn moon-
a crow alights
on an ashen branch

Shadows

golden morning light
drapes across the pristine snow-
dark bamboo shadows

late afternoon-
shadows cast by
window blind

Chance

I catch your eye as
we pass each other by but
you’re out of my league

noonday sun-
lions stalking
in the tall grass

Ice

an overnight storm
invades my dreams and I wake
to trees turned to glass

frozen rain-
crystal branches
brush the ground
