Lost

a dark bus depot-
waiting by the only light
for hope to arrive

dark wanderings-
only the moon
lights my path

Injustice

bitter winter winds-
corruption festers and thrives
in the light of day

new moon-
awaiting the sun
to seek out shadows

Midnight

deceptive shadows-
I make my way back to bed
the hall light left on

moonlight on the floor-
I check again
under her bed

Ripple

widening ripples-
a heron’s reflection
reaches the far shore

black water-
a willow branch
touches the moon

Nightmare

below the surface-
shadows of nameless horrors
rise up unbidden

deep in the night-
wrenched from sleep by
echoes of dreams

Autumn

the bright hunter’s moon-
a ‘possum in my garden
gleaning the harvest

soft autumn eve-
the crackle of leaves
under marauding paws

Pond

a grove of white oaks
standing in a flooded field-
leafless in summer

silver on black-
the koi swim
in the moon

Naked

the night fog a shroud
fallen from your bare shoulders
draped about your feet

a vernal pool-
naiads bathing in
the moonlight

Cusp

as the grey moon sets
the young sun rises above
a new horizon

the church yard-
low night bells
toll the new year

Solstice

in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night

an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves
