Mirage
a mirror’s surface
where the water meets the shore
ripples in the wind
–
cat tails
growing in and
out of the water
a mirror’s surface
where the water meets the shore
ripples in the wind
–
cat tails
growing in and
out of the water
when I’ve lost my way
the candle in your window
beckons me back home
–
wandering-
guided towards
your light
gentle drops of rain
darken the soil in prelude
to the coming storm
–
afternoon mizzle
darkening clouds
on the horizon
honeysuckle vines
distilling morning sunlight
into liquid gold
–
honeysuckles-
concentrating
liquid sunlightc
the dragonfly’s drone
suddenly silenced when it
alights on my palm
–
stillness-
the dragonfly
landed
ancient banyan roots
a lounging snapping turtle
basks in the sunlight
–
bayou roots-
the sun warms
a lazy turtle
a paper lantern
carried aloft on the breeze
lights the evening sky
—
twilight-
illuminated by
a passing lantern
a shaft of sunlight
pierces the dirty window
and falls to the floor
the old man’s brushes
with fluid movements coax life
out of the canvas
