Marsh

wings skim the lake as
a great blue heron takes flight
in the predawn mist

the rising sun-
hidden amid
the cattails

Ablaze

a beacon unlit
the lighthouse tender starts the
long journey upwards

your hot breath-
the birth of
a new flame

Surprise

warm morning sunlight
shines upon on a stranger’s face
in my hotel bed

full moon-
muddy tracks
lead to my bed

Atonement

alone with my sins-
I pray for atonement and
for the strength to change

overcast-
rain runs down
stained glass

Island

at work dreaming of
a caribbean romance
before summer ends

a dockside bar
rum runners and
buffet tunes

Shore

a horseshoe crab shell
empty in the shadow of
an upturned rowboat

moonlit surf-
the lifeguard tower
stands empty

Mermaid

the sea in the wind
salt, sand, and tropical sun
tangled in her hair

amid the waves-
she watches ships
ply her waters

Summer

clumps of garden weeds-
the summer sun warms my back
and eases my mind

a golden breeze-
the wind caught
in her hair

Lights

highway sedation-
numbed by the interplay of
streetlights and shadows

evening star-
a crow perched
atop a streetlight

Rain

her face to the sky
sundress plastered to her skin
at one with the rain

sandals in hand-
bare feet in
the wet grass
