Bows

cloudless starlit skies-
a pale white moonbow appears
above the aspen

double rainbow-
a gracious gift
after the storm

Fire

warm embers of clouds
gilded rose and violet
from the rising sun

dawn moon-
a crow alights
on an ashen branch

Shadows

golden morning light
drapes across the pristine snow-
dark bamboo shadows

late afternoon-
shadows cast by
window blind

#shadows

Lantern

at the forest’s edge
a guttering lantern hangs
from a shepherd’s crook

winter stars-
the warm glow
of a coach lamp

Ice

an overnight storm
invades my dreams and I wake
to trees turned to glass

frozen rain-
crystal branches
brush the ground

Drunk

pour me another
for I’m not yet numb enough
to make new mistakes

darkling beetles-
drunk on the
morning dew

Sparks

warm potbellied stove-
the winter air crackles with
electricity

dry night air-
your touch
shocking

Abed

the wan morning light-
wrapped up in your nakedness
unwilling to move

your damp hair-
for now I’m
the big spoon

Apples

the last day of spring-
apple blossoms ride on the
late afternoon breeze

barefoot-
crab apples
in the grass

Anticipation

at the podium
a wool blanket wraps itself
around my tongue

summer sun-
snowy cotton
waiting for harvest
