Comfort

a cold winter night
staccato rain on the roof
you, keeping me warm

winter’s eve
with you, I’m
warm inside

Convergence

escaping out of
my self constructed prison
into your embrace

bourbon
ice cubes
slowly melting

Disturbance

watching while you sleep
your gentle breath, warm and sweet
so easily stilled

echoes of
silence spread
throughout the night

Cover

an unseen rabbit
eyes the fox suspiciously
from beneath the hedge

hidden-
the rabbit spies
a hungry fox

Introspection

often I frequent
my mind’s darker recesses
to search for solace
Or
in the dark corners
of my mind
seeking peace-

Destiny

Peace is elusive
But a respite from the past
Would suffice for now

Jitters

With trepidation
I plant a kiss on your lips
Hoping it takes root

Pursuit

With outstretched talons
The barn owl glides silently
Focused on it prey

Refuse

An old cigarette
And me, both discarded trash
That once touched your lips

Serenity

A lake flat as glass
The calm belies the hunger
Beneath the surface
