Escape
under thick brambles
a stream runs through an arch
in an old stone wall
–
empty talons-
a chipmunk
avoids its fate
under thick brambles
a stream runs through an arch
in an old stone wall
–
empty talons-
a chipmunk
avoids its fate
trapped in the darkness
never wanting to leave this
beautiful nightmare
–
hoarfrost-
webs frozen
on the moor
your small fragile hand
once grasped so tightly in mine
now a hardened fist
–
clear blue sky-
learning to fly
on the way down
low afternoon sun-
the play of shadow and light
against your bare skin
–
under the sheets-
between us
the midnight sun
my bed calls to me
impossible to ignore
but yet I still try
–
waxing moon-
gliding down
on silent wings
the late august sky-
from behind the thinning clouds
unfamiliar stars
–
the dead of night-
a pewter moon
rising
alone on the dock-
staring into the remnants
of the setting sun
–
skipping stones-
bats take wing
before the moon
dwelling in the past-
bricked up in this house of pain
my arm, my jailer
–
a wasp’s sting-
repeated lies
no longer told
empty eyes soulless-
sliding down the razors edge
between life and death
–
soft rattles-
promises of release
in the tall grass
an aging oak tree-
all our sins laid bare beneath
the outstretched branches
–
a shoe in the grass-
the tire swing
motionless
