Fire

grey dying embers-
on rising smoke the campfire
draws its final breath

evening dew-
cooling ashes and
echoes of laughter

Remains

a stone foundation
the remnants of a sawmill
lost to the forest

after the fire-
the chimney casts
a long shadow

Regret

living in this house-
a shrine to your past regrets
and those yet to come

low tide-
finding sea glass
and jellyfish

Lost

walking the highway-
seems I lost myself while I
was looking for you

sandstorm-
the mirage
an oasis

Wet

barely keeping still-
my fingers brushing across
your wet ruby lips

waves lap the shore-
your hair drying in
the tropical sun

Poverty

broken shower tiles
a bare bulb hangs from a chain
in my one room flat

after last call-
neon signs
light my way home

Danger

sitting at the bar-
beautiful and dangerous
death in a red dress

mangrove trees-
crocodiles
come and go

Forest

a forest of ghosts-
cadavers stand sentinel
bleaching in the sun

echoes –
sunlight on
the forest floor

Rain

unexpected rain-
a brief but welcome respite
from the summer heat

clearing skies-
the gift of
a rainbow

Shower

passing rain showers-
steam rises from the asphalt
in the summer sun

soft patter-
august leaves
talk to the rain
