Detritus

washing off the day
a trail of discarded clothes
strewn out behind her

disturbed reverie-
on my journey
an empty snake skin

Light

the long autumn sun
shining through the turning leaves
of October trees

frosted windows-
winter morning light
spreads across my floor

Perspective

looking at myself
amid the twisted wreckage
of my ruined car

mourning doves-
lost in the white
of the winter sky

Repose

on a raven lake
the moon lies sleeping under
a blanket of stars

soft lapping-
the moon unwound
beside me

Rising

frost on the windows-
heat from the radiator
rustles the curtains

warm boots-
glowing embers
adrift in the smoke

Water

tumbling down hill
chatting and laughing aloud
running to the sea

freshly frozen-
on the lake shore
crackled glass

Slumber

waiting for the thaw
beneath fallen leaves and snow
a box turtle sleeps

frosted windows-
deeply burrowed
under blankets

Drought

shutters hang askew
a cracked and peeling screen door
banging in the wind

fading laughter
shards of glass litter
the sun baked earth

Daybreak

dawn by the lakeside
white herons fly over mist
lit by the sunrise

morning coffee
steam rises
off the grass

Fractures

splintering sunlight
golden arrow shafts quiver
piercing the water

the dog days
interrupted by
shattered glass
