Crystal

a glass dragonfly
darts through the air and alights
on my upturned palm

low winter sun-
stained glass
painting the wall

Rain

drops of quicksilver
balanced precariously
on a blade of grass

stained glass-
the palette
heavy rain

Afloat

iron seas and skies
sailing into the north wind
my face to the rain

solitude-
my paddle dips
into glassy water

Contemplation

the great blue heron
gently gliding just above
its own reflection

standing water-
a perfect sky
at my feet

Rememberence

thoughts of the fallen-
those who purchased our freedoms
with their flesh and blood

old glory-
a red haze blinding
the dogs of war

Watching

my ghosted reflection-
grey faces in the windows
of the passing train

stunning vistas-
guardrails floating
above the road

Train

a prairie sunrise-
rails rolling past my window
into the distance

crickets-
the silence of
a passing train

Wind

on a sea of glass-
the wind, a fickle mistress
abandoning me

moonless sky-
wolves howling
into the wind

Splinters

shards of old grudges-
determined to stay angry
poisoning myself

dusty trainers-
running from the sound
of broken glass

Memento

on our bedroom shelf
a collection of sea glass
each piece a moment

dogwoods-
petals stolen
by the wind
