Pond
a thin skin of ice
on the koi pond slowly melts
in the morning sun
–
floating leaves-
autumn carp swim
in lazy circles
a thin skin of ice
on the koi pond slowly melts
in the morning sun
–
floating leaves-
autumn carp swim
in lazy circles
my cupped hands hiding
the glow of a cigarette
behind the garage
–
cold rain-
ignoring my phone
before last call
embers burning low-
on the rim of my wine glass
crimson lipstick stains
–
lingering-
ruby lips and
a good bordeaux
rising from the sea-
her newly formed shores made from
black and steaming glass
–
predawn chill-
venus and jupiter dance
in the twilight
ashes and embers-
my gentle caress lingers
barely on your lips
–
cold glass-
the distance
of your touch
a callous wind blows
through the cracks in these old bones
and broken windows
–
rusty mountains-
poppy fields in
a sniper’s scope
staring at myself-
the bottom of a shot glass
looking back at me
–
oasis-
an empty carcass
in the sand
the window broken-
in the unlit house glass shards
crunching underfoot
–
descending silence-
a wizened elm
uprooted
faded love letters
the pages of our marriage
dog-eared and wrinkled
–
mulled cider-
clothes fresh
from the dryer
the gathering rain-
reflections of my spirit
clouding my windows
–
dirty windows-
the outside world
smeared by the rain
