Driving

driving through the night
the asphalt beneath my wheels
becomes slick with snow

my future-
lost in the oncoming
headlights

Gathering

winter moths gather-
snowflakes lit by the street lamp
in the bitter night

gathering drifts-
ice crawls up
my window

Ice

an overnight storm
invades my dreams and I wake
to trees turned to glass

frozen rain-
crystal branches
brush the ground

Thirst

palm leaves shade the sand-
reclining in a chaise lounge
drinking in the sun

salt air-
margaritas
whet my dreams

Grey

an arctic grey wolf
arrives on the cold north wind
and sinks its teeth in

grey clouds-
english ivy
turned to glass

Frost

a fire in the hearth-
my well worn leather arm chair
and a mug of tea

frosted glass-
your cold feet
under my legs

Glint

jewels in the darkness-
a scattering of diamonds
in the shattered glass

winter‘s eve-
moonlight dances
on the fallen snow

Time

late into the night-
pouring over lesson plans
and student papers

a clenched fist-
time still runs
through my fingers

Island

at work dreaming of
a caribbean romance
before summer ends

a dockside bar
rum runners and
buffet tunes

Shoreline

reeds and rushes-
a warm tide ebbs from the marsh
and runs to the sea

sea glass-
walking the beach
at low tide
