Focus
eyes looking inward
staring into the darkness
barely held at bay
–
cleansing breaths-
the forest
whispers
eyes looking inward
staring into the darkness
barely held at bay
–
cleansing breaths-
the forest
whispers
an empty city-
young maples rises up through
the broken sidewalk
–
an old plow-
reclaimed
by the forest
tufts of rabbit fur
strewn across the forest floor
beneath the owls nest
–
burning sands-
the condor casts
a broad shadow
stallions in the sky
rearing out of boiling clouds
thunder through the night
–
late fall snow-
wild horses fade
into the woods
deep in the shadows
a dark malevolence seeps
from out of the woods
–
wicker basket-
destroying angels
lie in wait
seeking inner peace
yearning to quench the darkness
that burns in my soul
–
wildfires-
a cold late
autumn rain
putting down the phone
the harsh meaning of your words
doesn’t register
–
distant rain-
unexpected
lightning
november evening-
skeletal trees charcoal black
in the fading light
–
graveyard’s edge-
bone fingers
in the mist
tattered autumn lace
drifting in the morning air
lofted by the breeze
–
leaf litter-
tulip poplars
shed their skin
late autumn evenings-
tarnished copper trees framing
skies of polished bronze
–
crisp air-
hunting in
the night sky
