Focus

eyes looking inward
staring into the darkness
barely held at bay

cleansing breaths-
the forest
whispers

Reclamation

an empty city-
young maples rises up through
the broken sidewalk

an old plow-
reclaimed
by the forest

Bird

tufts of rabbit fur
strewn across the forest floor
beneath the owls nest

burning sands-
the condor casts
a broad shadow

Horses

stallions in the sky
rearing out of boiling clouds
thunder through the night

late fall snow-
wild horses fade
into the woods

Evil

deep in the shadows
a dark malevolence seeps
from out of the woods

wicker basket-
destroying angels
lie in wait

Transformation

seeking inner peace
yearning to quench the darkness
that burns in my soul

wildfires-
a cold late
autumn rain

Shock

putting down the phone
the harsh meaning of your words
doesn’t register

distant rain-
unexpected
lightning

Trees

november evening-
skeletal trees charcoal black
in the fading light

graveyard’s edge-
bone fingers
in the mist

Leaves

tattered autumn lace
drifting in the morning air
lofted by the breeze

leaf litter-
tulip poplars
shed their skin

Chill

late autumn evenings-
tarnished copper trees framing
skies of polished bronze

crisp air-
hunting in
the night sky
